You Could Be a Good Candidate For LASIK Surgery at Lewis County Eye & Vision, Inc. in Chehalis, WA
Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is no longer a rare procedure - it's now one of the top vision procedures and has allowed many people to once again see clearly without glasses or contacts. The procedure is suitable for many people, but it is possible for someone to not be a good candidate. At Lewis County Eye & Vision, Inc., in Chehalis, WA we want to be sure you're a good candidate for LASIK before we proceed.
What Is LASIK?
LASIK involves reshaping the middle cornea with a laser. The surgeon will either cut a flap in the outer layer of the cornea, do the reshaping, and then put the flap back, or will remove a very thin layer of the outer cornea, do the reshaping, and then let the eye heal the cornea naturally. In flap LASIK, the type where the surgeon cuts that flap, your recovery, and improvement in sight is rapid -only about a day.
Who is a Good Candidate For LASIK?
Good LASIK candidates have stable vision - no changes in prescription in less than a year, and won't have safety concerns about not using glasses or contacts after the procedure. Your eyes should be otherwise healthy, and in general, you shouldn't have a lifestyle that could put your eyes at physical risk. Bad candidates have additional eye problems, recent changes in prescription, and active involvement in contact sports.
What Happens Before and After the Surgery?
Before you undergo LASIK, you'll need to go through extensive testing to ensure that your eyes are generally healthy. After the procedure, you'll have to wear eye protection for several weeks when you sleep. You'll also, absolutely, need to avoid rubbing your eyes, and you'll have at least one appointment soon after the surgery, such as the next day, to test your vision.
